Network access control evolved
published on
2009/11/30
by
Anthony Plewes
Infonetics Research published a whitepaper discussing the evolution of network access control (NAC) solutions, stating that this technology is now capable of protecting networks from internal attacks and unmanaged devices -- with many enterprises missing out because "they're thinking of 2003 NAC instead of 2009 NAC". The original intention of NAC was to prevent the spread of malware by preventing infected computers from accessing the network. Unfortunately, the complexity of deployments was deemed more painful than the problem they solved, and may companies found it difficult to justify the investment. In contrast, the latest generation of products are easier to......

pros and cons of Gantt Charts

Michel Operto
I am convinced of the conceptual and visual value of Gantt charts in Project Management. These charts encourage us to structure the project and that in itself is a key benefit. Also on the......

Top tips for greening your data center
published on

by
Stewart Baines
Data center operators, and those that use them, are under increasing pressure to go green. Demand for data center capacity is being driven up by a number of factors that make driving efficiency through green principles a complex process. But, the introduction of new emissions laws, such as the UK Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme makes the greening of the data center inevitable. The CRC has been causing great concern for data center professionals, who also need to save money on energy bills - as higher energy use may have tax levy implications, strengthen their green credentials to......
